Human Factors

Definition

The physical, psychological, cognitive, and behavioral characteristics that influence driver performance.

Human factors matter because security driving is not purely mechanical. The driver's eyes, attention, reaction time, stress response, fatigue level, hearing, coordination, memory, and emotional control all affect the quality of protective mobility.

The human operator can be the strongest or weakest part of the system. A tired driver may miss surveillance indicators. A stressed driver may overreact. A distracted driver may fail to detect a vehicle entering a blind spot. A confident but poorly trained driver may exceed the vehicle's limits.
