Definition
A preventive driving discipline focused on anticipation, legal compliance, safe spacing, hazard recognition, and collision avoidance.
Defensive driving is essential because a security driver must first prevent ordinary road risk before addressing hostile risk. Accidents, congestion, weather, other road users, and poor spacing can expose the Principal as seriously as a deliberate threat.
Defensive driving also creates tactical options. A driver who maintains distance, reads traffic early, and avoids being boxed in has more choices if the environment changes. In this sense, defensive driving is not a weak or ordinary skill. It is the foundation of operational control.
