Run-flat Tires
Definition
Special tires that allow limited continued movement after loss of air pressure, commonly used on protective vehicles.
Run-flat tires matter because mobility is central to protective transportation. During an attack, road hazard, or tire damage, the ability to continue moving may be more important than the ability to stop and repair the tire.
Run-flat systems have limits. They are not unlimited, do not restore full performance, and depend on speed, distance, load, damage type, and vehicle weight. The driver must know the manufacturer limits and monitor warnings.
