Center of Gravity
Definition
The point at which a vehicle’s weight is balanced, strongly influencing stability, weight transfer, and rollover risk.
Center of gravity matters because many protective vehicles are heavy, tall, or modified. SUVs, vans, armored cars, and some electric vehicles may behave very differently from standard sedans. The driver must know how vehicle mass affects movement.
A higher center of gravity increases body roll and can reduce cornering stability. Armor, passengers, luggage, and equipment can change balance. A lower center of gravity may improve stability but does not remove grip limits or braking demands.
