Braking Distance
Definition
The distance a vehicle travels from the moment braking begins until it comes to a complete stop.
Braking distance matters because security drivers often operate in traffic, motorcades, urban environments, and changing weather. A vehicle that cannot stop in time may cause an accident, expose the Principal, break motorcade formation, or eliminate escape options.
Armored vehicles, SUVs, heavy EVs, wet roads, worn tires, fatigue, and short following distances can significantly increase stopping distance. The security driver must preserve space and avoid assuming that modern systems can compensate for poor judgment.
